Office d'A - Witte Arts Center
This publication presents Office dA, Witte Arts Center, an unbuilt project in Green Bay, Wisconsin, that explores the expressive and structural potential of a continuous composite brick facade.
Mónica Ponce de León and Nader Tehrani of Office dA designed the Witte Arts Center in 2000 in response to a real estate brief calling for artists’ studios supported by street-level retail in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The site is exposed on three sides to historic buildings, parking, and a busy pedestrian street, and the project explores the potential of a continuous composite brick facade to sustain and connect different characters while remaining coherent and structurally expressive. Developed while the office was experimenting with computer-aided fabrication and photorealistic rendering, the project deploys digital tools alongside hand drafting and physical modelling.
As part of a multiyear project that includes three exhibitions on twenty-five seminal projects, the CCA and Greg Lynn are publishing a series of digital publications recording conversations with key architects. The epubs are heavily illustrated with photos, drawings, renderings, videos, PDFs, and interactive 3D models.
